   With over 40 years of experience as a Survival, Safety & Security Subject Matter Expert, I’m not easily impressed and have a keen eye for quality in even the smallest items I own. I tend to recognize reputable brands and quickly assess products based on my previous experiences with them.

   The knife and multitool alone are worth the $20, providing great value right from the start. While the CREE flashlight may not be the best on the market, it’s an industry standard and worth another $10, even on Amazon. The tactical baton/pen is a reliable staple, as is the paracord compass/whistle/firesteel bracelet—excellent additions.

   Shipping was prompt and well-packed with the other items in my order, arriving almost overnight. Overall, I give this 4 stars, as I’m genuinely impressed. I highly recommend this as a lifesaver for your car’s glovebox. It’s compact enough for everyday carry in a waist pouch or my BDU pocket—EDC for those new to the term.

   These are perfect for stashing in your car, backpack, or luggage for trips—just set it and forget it. If you ever find yourself in a tight spot, you’ll appreciate having all the items inside. However, be aware that once you open it, you have to rely on the website’s description for what’s included, as it’s packed tightly. Pair one of these with a good first aid kit, secure them together, and place them in locations where they might be needed in an emergency.

   This kit is quite the mix. It appears to be a product of Chinese manufacturing, offering a random assortment of survival gear packed into a decent water-resistant plastic storage box. There are various versions available, all featuring similar items and boxes. What you get for the price is a reflection of this randomness: a collection of mostly mediocre, made-in-China items, a few that barely justify the shipping cost, and a couple of surprisingly solid pieces.

   Starting with the positives in the “Antarctica” kit: the “tactical” flashlight, “tactical pen” (which doubles as a glass-breaker and write-anywhere pen), “tactical folding knife,” and multi-tool are noteworthy. While you can find better quality from established brands like Maglite or Gerber, those would come at a significantly higher price! For basic tools in an overnight roadside emergency, these seem adequate, and the knives are sturdy enough if handled with care. The storage box itself is surprisingly nice and definitely a keeper (I’ve repurposed these core items for my modified glovebox kit).

   On the downside, the wire saw and survival card are laughably poor additions for these types of budget kits. The keyring storage container feels like a cheap plastic “tactical pill bottle,” and could easily be replaced with a sturdier aluminum version. The paracord bracelet, equipped with a whistle, fire starter, and compass, is similarly questionable—while the whistle and ferro-rod are nearly useless, the paracord could still be beneficial for various uses. The “tactical” tourniquet seems potentially hazardous, and the band-aids provide a comically inadequate first-aid solution—going from band-aids to a tourniquet without anything in between is not ideal. The flimsy mylar blanket is standard for low-budget survival kits and could serve as a makeshift shelter, but I prefer the wool blanket I keep in my car. I will use the tourniquet for emergencies but hope it never comes to that; most other items will likely be tossed into my box of unused survival gear for a future garage sale.

   As for the mediocre fillers, the generic ferro-rod and striker are solid, while the “tactical spork” with a built-in whistle is amusingly out of place in a survival kit but could work in a camping mess kit. The carabiner compass is surprisingly decent compared to the typical cheap button compass found in budget kits, and the metal whistle offers more reliability than the usual plastic versions. The tiny keychain screwdrivers are functional, and other small items like jute tinder, cordage, key-ring loops, and minimalist fishing gear are fine but largely forgettable. Most of these ended up in my actual survival kit or first-aid kits, as I plan to use the “Antarctica” kit as a glovebox automotive emergency kit alongside a more comprehensive trunk toolkit.

   Overall, this kit contains some surprisingly decent items for a Chinese off-the-shelf survival kit, but it seems to have been thrown together without much thought. The inclusion of the spork is particularly odd, as are the limited first-aid options, which consist solely of a tourniquet and a band-aid, accompanied by a mylar blanket and plastic key-ring fob. There’s an odd redundancy in the kit; having one whistle, ferro-rod, and compass is reasonable, but two of each feels excessive, especially when some are quite flimsy and could be omitted entirely. Ultimately, there’s a lot of unnecessary junk that can be removed to create a more focused kit.

   With that in mind, I repurposed the box and selected essential components—like the pen, flashlight, multi-tool, and folding knife—and added items from other sources, such as a ratchet-and-socket combo, weatherproof notebook, and lighter. For more serious roadside emergencies, I rely on a proper toolkit, scissor jack, jumper cables, and an air pump in the trunk, as well as a first-aid kit and wool blanket in the back seat. However, for a compact grab-and-go glovebox emergency tool kit, this stripped-down “Antarctica” kit meets the bare minimum for handling typical roadside issues—providing a flashlight, knife, basic mechanical repair tools, and a weatherproof notepad with a write-anywhere pen to jot down notes and contact information. The items I kept are worth the price for this purpose!

   In conclusion, most of the other mediocre items are better suited for my survival, camping, hiking, or bug-out bag, while the lesser quality ones will likely end up in a novelty “survival gear” grab-bag at a garage sale.

   Overall, I’d rate this kit a 3/5 stars: the standout items exceed expectations, making them nearly worth the price alone, but the rest of the kit feels like a haphazard mix of ineffective survival gear. The solid box and quality items provide a decent foundation for a more sensible kit, especially at this price!

   This emergency pack is nearly ideal. It’s lightweight, the container is reasonably sturdy, and many of the items inside are impressively durable. While some components are understandably fragile due to their lightweight design and intended use, this is to be expected.

   I gifted this to my best friend, who is a passionate, adventurous soul. He was thrilled with it! He eagerly examined each item, imagining when, where, and how he would put them to use (his reaction to the tourniquet was particularly entertaining).

   He felt confident in the kit’s functionality and believes it will hold up well even in the event of multiple emergencies occurring simultaneously. Seeing someone knowledgeable endorse this product prompted me to purchase two for myself and one for each member of my extended family. That’s how great of a find this is.

   In summary, while it isn’t flawless, it’s very close.

   This is an excellent kit for beginner survivalists. I store mine in my truck. My only complaint is that I wish the carrying pouch was larger.
